October 18, 2021 - Boulevard Restoration Update
Due to earlier availability, the contractor will begin work on Tuesday, October 19th. We apologize for any inconvenience. More information in the official public notice.
October 14, 2021 - Boulevard Restoration
The City appreciates your patience regarding the restoration of boulevards disturbed during last year's street project. After discussions wtih the Contractor, the City will be replacing disturbed areas with sod. This work is anticipated to begin the week of October 25th. More information in the official public notice found here. Addtionally a letter will be mailed to affected residents.
July 22, 2021 - Restoration Update
The City recognizes the ongoing issues with the boulevard restoration following last year’s watermain replacement and street rehabilitation project. The issues are throughout the project area, with a larger concentration on Longfellow Street, Liberty Street, Ely Street and Ruth Street. We are aware of the weeds, rocks and general inability of the restored areas to support the growth of healthy grass.
The City has been in contact with our contractor throughout the summer. We are discussing alternatives and developing a strategy to correct the areas disturbed during construction. Once the work plan is approved we will provide an additional notice by mail overviewing our approach and anticipated schedule.
October 19, 2020 - Update
The contractor will be continuing sawing and sealing of new streets. This helps control where the road expands and will minimize cracking in new roadway. This is the last major task of construction. Please see the emailed public notice for further information.
October 9, 2020 - Sawing and Sealing Streets - Monday 10/12
The Contractor will be sawing and sealing control joints in the new streets on Monday, October 12. This work entails sawing the pavement and filling the cuts with a sealant. Boulevard restoration will also continue. Please reference the email notice for more information.
October 5, 2020 - Final Street Paving
The final lift of pavement will be installed Tuesday, October 6th throughout the entire project area. Important information is in the latest emailed updates including the order of streets to be paved. It is recommended to allow a few extra minutes in your day if re-routing is necessary to exit the neighborhood as it is important to stay off the new pavement for as long as possible to allow it to cure. We appreciate patience as we near completion of the project.
September 23, 2020 - Paving
The contractor will be paving asphalt base lift on Ruth Street, Ely Street, Ashton Avenue, Liberty Street and the intersection of Ironton St and Ashton Avenue on Thursday, Sept 24. On Friday, Sept 25, the contractor will pave 79th Way. The emailed update below has more information including information on asphalt driveways and boulevard restoration. September 21, 2020 - Extended Closure, Ruth Street
Extended Closure: Ruth Street will remain closed south of Ely Street until the end of the day Thursday, 9/24.
Paving the remaining gravel streets has been rescheduled for this upcoming Thursday & Friday. No future closures are anticipated as part of the project. A more formal paving notice with a map will be provided on Wednesday, 9/23. Thank you for your ongoing patience. Keep hanging in there, we are nearing completion!
September 18, 2020 - Ruth Street Closure Update
Ruth Street will remain closed south of Ely Street until the end of the day Tuesday, 9/22.

September 14, 2020 - Road Closure Notice
Ruth Street will be closed at Hugo Street at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, 9/15. Access to Ruth Street from Hugo Street will reopen at the end of day Friday, 9/18. These measures are being taken to minimize longer closure periods and inconveniences. Thank you for your ongoing patience. See below map for suggested routes through the neighborhood.
September 4th, 2020
Watermain replacement work will continue the week of September 7th on Longfellow Street and street grading and paving will be taking place as well. The weekly update provides more detailed information on activities happening in the next week. Please click the link below.
August 26, 2020
Street Paving is going to begin on Ironton, Hugo, and Ely Streets and Ashton Avenue on Thursday, August 27th. The contractor will begin at 7:00 am on Ironton Street and will work south. It is important to stay off the new pavement for as long as possible. Driveways will be accessable by end of day. Please see important parking information in the emailed notice and contact the Engineering department with questions.
August 19, 2020
Concrete Driveways, curb and gutter have begun being poured in the project area. Street reclamation is also continuing this week along with watermain and hydrant replacement. Please see notice below for the latest information
Temporary Mailbox clusters have been set up for Ely Street, Longfellow Street and Liberty Street. Ely Street will return to regular mail service beginning Thursday, August 20th. For further information, please reference the emailed public notice. As always, contact the Engineering Division with any questions.
August 14, 2020
Street Reclamation will begin on remaining streets starting Monday, August 17th. This will be followed immediately by grading to prepare the base and provide a drivable surface. For specific streets in project area that will be affected as well as some important reminders about parking, please see the emailed notice below.
August 6, 2020
Mail service on Liberty Street will be temporarily moved to a mailbox cluster on the corner of Ashton Ave and Liberty Street due to watermain replacement taking place beginning August 7th. More information can be found in the emailed update below.
July 30, 2020
A temporary watermain connection will be provided to homes while watermain replacement occurs over the next week on Ely, Liberty and Longfellow Street. Detailed information can be found in the emailed public notice. Please contact Engineering with questions.
July 20, 2020
Construction is anticipated to being the week of July 27th and will begin with pavement removal and replacement, concrete curb, watermain and fire hydrant replacement. More information can be found, including a tentative construction schedule, in the latest emailed public notice found at the link below.
July 2, 2020
The City has awarded the project to C&L Excavating of St. Joseph, MN. A preconstruction meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 8th and we will have a more formalized project schedule to share. It is anticipated construction will begin in late July. More information can be found in the emailed update to residents found below. Information was mailed to affected residents on Tuesday, May 5th regarding the tentative construction schedule and information on how to get updates during the project due to the pandemic. April 22, 2020
The City of Fridley’s 2020 Street Rehabilitation Project is anticipated to begin this summer. The project is currently out for bids. A start date will be available once a contractor is awarded the project mid-May. Given the current pandemic the City will be posting future project updates and notifications on the 2020 Street Project page. Residents are encouraged to contact web-StreetProjects@fridleymn.gov and request to be added to the mailing list to receive project updates via email.
November 25, 2019
A public hearing was held on Monday, November 25 at 7 p.m.
A preliminary assessment notice was mailed to all affected properties. A copy of the questionnaire will also be mailed out to all properties. We are also seeking feedback for this project on Polco.

The project area is bounded by Ashton Avenue to the east, East River Road to the west, Ironton Street to the north and 79th Way to the south. The work will include pavement resurfacing, concrete curb repairs, watermain replacement in select segments, aging fire hydrant replacement and miscellaneous utility maintenance. The proposed improvements will be presented at the open house tentatively scheduled for 6:00 PM, September 17th, at City Hall.
